A metered taxi to the riverside will cost 50,000d. Buses leave for all major centres, including Dong Hoi (55,000d to 100,000d, five hours, four daily), Hue (25,000d, three hours, every 30 minutes), Quy Nhon (50,000d to 100,000d, six hours, four daily) and Kon Tum (130,000d, five hours, four daily). There are three weekly services to Savannakhet (118,000d, 14 hours), crossing the border at Lao Bao. Buses to the Lao Bao border alone are 90,000d (six hours); you may have to change buses at Dong Ha. Regular buses to Hoi An (10,000d, one hour) are a bright sunflower yellow but have no air-conditioning.
They depart from a local bus station directly opposite the ticket office in the intercity bus station. Foreigners tend to be overcharged, so check the price before boarding and stand your ground. With a booking, Sinh Café open-tour buses will pick-up from its office twice daily en route to Hue (60,000d to 70,000d, 2½ hours) or Hoi An (50,000d to 60,000d, one hour).
